Upcoming BlackBerry 10 to be a Shot In the Arm For RIM in 2013?

Research In Motion hasn’t exactly been doing well lately, with its marketshare continuing to slide. However, it has high hopes for its upcoming BlackBerry 10 smartphone due for 2013, if what its managing director of RIM’s Canadian operations, Andrew McLeod, is anything to go by. RIM has been showing the BB10 to various carriers, who have apparently been impressed with it, as McLeod explained, “The response that we got back from the executive team at some of the Canadian carriers was tremendous. They were visibly positive and visibly enthusiastic.”

The demos were held in RIM’s two crucial markets, Canada and the US and were conducted by RIM CEO Thorsten Heins, plus a few other top execs. They will then visit carriers in Europe, Asia and elsewhere over the next few weeks. RIM will then begin launch discussions with them, with the hope that the excitement from the carriers will help to create the crucial launch buzz to help spur sales of the new devices. Let’s hope they’re successful, as this will increase competition in the marketplace, giving customers more choice of better devices at cheaper prices.

“We’re in the process of finalizing the software,” McLeod said. “It was at a point where we had a confidence level that we could really demonstrate the validity of the products and software. Obviously, you don’t want to show something that is not going to wow folks. People were excited with what they saw.”
