AMD Mantle & TrueAudio Patch for THIEF Coming March 18th

By

The Thief game patch that enables Mantle and AMD TrueAudio technology will be made available on March 18th! We were tolf by AMD that using Mantle makes an undeniably significant improvement when it comes to gaming performance. This game title will also become the first AMD TrueAudio-enabled public game title. In Thief, AMD TrueAudio is utilized to calculate an effect called convolution reverb. Convolution reverb is a technique that mathematically simulates the echoes (i.e. reverberation) of a real-life location. This effect is accomplished by recording an impulse response, which is a snapshot of the echo characteristics of a real location in the world. That impulse response is fed back into software that can recreate that behavior in a PC game. Thief uses this technique to make buildings, cathedrals, alleyways and other in-game venues sound quite like they would in real life. With the new patch, gamers can choose to run this effect on their CPU (with corresponding CPU utilization increases), or offload this effect entirely to the AMD TrueAudio core found in the R9 290X, R9 290 or R7 260X GPUs.

AMD is keeping all the performance information under wraps until the 18th, but we hope to have some coverage up when the patch comes out!
