Intel & PC Vendors To Discuss Haswell Development

Intel is feeling the impact the lack of consumer demand for their 22nm Ivy Bridge platform is having, and is now focusing on Haswell its next-generation platform. In order to make sure everything goes as planned for release, Intel has invited six major PC vendors to discuss its plans with, which include HP, Lenovo, Dell and Acer among others. The idea is to discuss the development plan for the new platform in order to make sure Haswell-based processors and the 8-series chipsets are ready and fully operational by April 2013 in order to boost market sales. Sources talking to PC players have pointed out that the six PC vendors R&D teams are already prepared to conduct testing for the transition between platforms for that very purpose. As it stands Haswell processors are already expected to see performance and in many cases power consumption enhancements, which should help Intel catch up with ARM-based devices and furthermore improve penetration in the tablet PC and smartphone markets. The third-generation of Ultrabooks should be coming down the pipe as well in order to try and keep ARM from gaining any ground in the notebook market. So it looks likes Haswell and the 8 series motherboards are well underway in their journey to market with Intel and PC vendors gearing up to make sure launch goes as intended next year, all the while preparing to further expand into the mobile market.
