AMD’s New Trinity-Based APU Goes Into HP Desktop System
AMD released its new Trinity core based Accelerated Processing Units (APU) in May to the mobile market, followed by embedded chips. AMD also announced that the desktop versions would be released at the end of June and this has now happened. HP has started selling their Pavilion p7-1235 with the AMD A8-5500 APU inside at Walmart and Best Buy, which can be ordered online at both retail outfits. It’s not yet available at a physical store, but the ship to store option can be selected.
According to the retailers’ websites, the A8-5500 APU has the following specifications: 3.2GHz clock speed, four cores, 4MB L2 cache and Radeon HD 7560D graphics. It has also been previously reported that the APU has a Turbo frequency of 3.7GHz, 65W TDP and fits into the FM2 socket. The graphics unit has 256 shader processors and runs at 760MHz.
The A8-5500 is the slowest from the first 4 desktop accelerated units, that were announced back in June. With the launch of these APUs in OEM PCs, the most pressing question for computer enthusiasts now would be when the processors, as well as socket FM2 motherboards, will be available in retail?
