Rumor: Microsoft Windows 8 RTM Will Be Build 8500, Announcement May Come In July

By

According to Neowin, Microsoft’s Windows 8 RTM will be build 8500.0.120623-1707. The information was leaked by Wzor, who apparently has a decent track record of leaking Windows information ahead of time. That said, the source has also stated that Microsoft could make the announcement in late July, which is certainly plausible considering Microsoft has two events towards the end of the month. The first is MGX, which takes place July 17-20, and then on the 19th they have their earnings call. The source of the leak is claiming that the announcement will be at MGX. While it can’t be confirmed, it does coincide with previously released information that has Microsoft finishing Windows 8 RTM in July. Regardless of if Windows 8 RTM uses 8500 or 8600 builds, the fact that it should be completed in July would make the rumored October release date viable.

Windows 8 has been noted to be Microsoft’s biggest gamble yet. But, with the hardware/software that was just announced (Microsoft Surface and Windows Phone 8), the entire ecosystem around the platform is coming together. If true, July will be yet another busy month as the company takes one giant step towards Windows 8 retail availability.
