Diablo III Digital Copies Limited To Starter Edition For Up To Three Days
Blizzard has a new announcement and it’s sure to make more then a few people unhappy. As of patch 1.0.3, which came out Tuesday, Digital versions of Diablo III will be limited to Starter Edition for up to 72 hours (3 days). This is to cut down on cases of fraud and illicit activities. For those wondering what Starter Edition means, here’s the quick and dirty. Users will be limited to Act I and can only progress up to the Skeleton King. A level cap 13 will also be set and matchmaking will be limited to other Starter Edition players. Not to mention users will have zero access to the the gold and real money auction houses and Global Play will also be unavailable. Talk about a laundry list of limitations. Granted Blizzard is only trying to what’s best for the community, it’s still going to rub a lot of people the wrong way. It is speculated this move has more to it than just the implied announcement from Blizzard, in fact it may not be a stretch to say this is being implemented to help slow down those whom have been banned from immediately getting back in game on top of helping filter gold sellers etc. With that said Blizzard has stated it normally takes far less time than the three days they have stated for approval.
Although Blizzard has good intentions, limiting players to a few hours of content eliminates the primary appeal of buying a digital game: instant gratification. On the bright side, the company says its approval often takes less than three days, but until it implements a more elegant solution, you’re probably better off getting the game from a local retailer if you want to play for a lengthy period right away.
