Windows 8 Release Preview Gets Intel HD Graphics Driver

By

Window 8 driver support is increasing as the operating system nears its launch date. We’ve had NVIDIA and AMD provide official driver support for the unreleased operating system and now it’s Intel’s turn with their beta driver, which is at version 15.28.0.64.2770 and weighs in at 167MB. The driver supports Windows Display Driver Model Version 1.2 (WDDM 1.2) and features such as stereoscopic 3D and DirectX 11. Hardware support is there for various Intel CPUs, but the two most significant are Sandy Bridge HD 2000/3000 graphics and Ivy Bridge 2500/4000 graphics. The driver can be downloaded at the link below and the release notes can be downloaded here (349KB PDF).

Usage:

These software drivers are generic versions and can be used for general purposes. However, computer original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to the software or software packaging they provide. To avoid any potential installation incompatibilities on your OEM system, Intel recommends that you check with your OEM and use the software provided by your system manufacturer.
