Leaked Document Reveals More Details About Upcoming Xbox 720
Rumours about the upcoming Xbox 720 have been rife lately. Now, fuel has been added to the fire in the form of a document leaked onto Scribd (but since pulled) gives more details about the upcoming Xbox 720 console from Microsoft. In its 56 pages it gives information on improved CPU power, the Kinect “Glasses”, integration of cross platform devices and affordability.
The CPU is expected to be around six times more powerful than the one in the Xbox 360 and while it’s unknown exactly how this will be achieved, rumours suggest that it will be using ARM or x86 CPUs to achieve this increase. Augmented reality appears to be another feature of the new console, as Microsoft’s Kinect technology will seamlessly integrate “the digital world with the physical world” allowing the user to control the media experience using “Gesture, Voice and Touch”. The price point for all this goodness and a lot more, is to be around $300. The picture below shows a block diagram of the Yukon architecture that will power the Xbox 720.
Rumors about the new console have been greeted with both excitement and dismay by gamers. In the first instance, there’s the touch screen controller that’s supposedly being readied for the new Xbox, in the second, there’s the report that it will carry some form of DRM software that prevents the console from playing used games.
