Rumor: AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition Details Surface

Current rumors are saying AMD’s Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition is going to enter mass production next week. More important for enthusiasts however is what kind of specs this updated Tahiti XT chip (Tahiti XT2) will have. Well according to a source talking with OCAHOLIC, the HD 7970 GHz Edition will supposedly come clocked at 1100 MHz a full 175 MHz faster then the original reference HD 7970 at launch, not to mention it will do these clocks at 1.020 volts compared to the 1.175 volts previously. With these improved clock speeds and a lower voltage the AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition may give AMD the single GPU performance crown. AMD may also bin these chips for use in the HD 7990 considering their potential for better clocks with lower volts could help keep power consumption in check. Take this with a grain of salt as it’s just rumors until we get official word on what to expect from AMD’s new Tahiti XT2-based graphics cards.
