ASRock at Computex 2012: Report

By

ASRock is showcasing several products at Computex 2012, including an array of their latest motherboards, along with home theatre PCs. This report concentrates on the overclocking demos, gaming competition and ASRock’s new high end motherboard products – one of which supports the new Thunderbolt high speed interconnection technology running at 10 Gbit/s.

World champion overclocker Nick Shih and German number one overclocker SuicidePhoenix showed how it was done using the new Z77 OC Formula motherboard. This board is special, because it’s the the first overclocking-specialized motherboard developed by Nick Shih. This is also the debut for this super high end motherboard, which should satisfy the needs of even the most hardcore overclocker. The duo showed how to overclock an Intel Core i7-3770K CPU using LN2, which ran completely stably. Unsurprisingly, significant crowds gathered to see this.

The Z77 OC Formula motherboard has the following major features: Intel LGA 1155 socket for Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge CPUs; Intel Z77 chipset; premium gold capacitors; Digi Power 12 + 4 phases; DDR3 3000 (OC) on 4 DIMM slots, with a max capacity of 32MB; 2 PCIe 3.0 x16 slots supporting quad SLI & 3-way CrossFireX; 10 USB 3.0 and 12 USB 2.0; 6 SATA 3.0 and 4 SATA 2; 7.1 CH HD Realtek ALC898 sound, supporting THX TruStudio; UEFI BIOS.

Next up there was an eye-catching gaming event by TeSL professional e-sports athletes: Jojo from XPEC Ironman Team versus Nifi from Wayi Spider Team. The two professional gamers played StarCraftII against each other and the best-of-three won. After three intense games, Jojo knocked Nifi down by winning the first and the last game. These close-run games pulled in further crowds.

ASRock also had their new X79 Extreme11 motherboard on show for LGA 2011 CPUs (Sandy Bridge-E). Major features are: premium gold caps; Digi Power 24 + 2 power phase design, dual stack MOSFET; quad channel DDR3 2400+(OC) on 8 DIMM slots, max 64GB; 7 PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, supporting quad SLI and quad CrossFireX with all slots running at full speed/full width; Broadcom dual Gigabit LAN with teaming; Creative Sound Core 3D 7.1 channel, supports premium headset amplifier; 8 USB 3.0 and 14 USB 2.0; 2 SATA 3 (from Intel X79 chipset) 8 SAS 6Gbps, or 8 SATA 3 via an LSI SAS2308 controller; UEFI BIOS.
