Toshiba Unveils Three New Ultrabooks Including The U845W With 21:9 Aspect Ratio

By

Toshiba have unveiled three new ultrabooks based on Intel’s Ivy Bridge CPU, one with an ultrawide screen ratio for movie buffs. The Satellite U845W features a 14.4 inch 21:9 super widescreen display aimed at film buffs to enable the display of films without the ‘black bars’ of unused screen space either side. Note that with a resolution of 1792×768 pixels, it’s not exactly a high resolution display though. It’s complemented by Harmon Kardon stereo speakers and SRS Premium Sound 3DTM for “rich audio quality”.

Next up, we have the Satellite U845 with a 16:9 widescreen display having a resolution of 1366×768 pixels, but otherwise a very similar spec to the U845W. Finally, we have the Portege Z935, which is an updated version of the Z835 for Ivy Bridge and has a more useful 1600×900 pixel display. It has a very similar frame to the Z835, but includes an extra USB port.

Price and availability is as follows: U845W, July 15 for $999.99; U845, June 24 for $749.99 and the Z935 on June 24 for $899.99. Note that these are all minimum prices for the most basic configurations. There’s lots more detail at the links below.
