Ben Heck Creates Power Glove, Augments Xbox 360 Kinect User Experience

Element 14, the first collaborative engineering community, along with modder Ben Heck have built a futuristic “Minority Report” inspired power glove. The glove is designed to augment the Xbox 360 Kinect user experience and was featured on the latest episode of “The Ben Heck Show.” The glove is comprised of an Arduino-embedded processor along with an accelerometer attached to a standard leather glove. It allows for a more intuitive and precise method for navigating content with Xbox 360 Kinect. But it isn’t as simple as a few hardware components strapped to a glove, programming knowledge was required in order to get the standard IR code and communication protocols wired up and working in order to conveniently select games and movies with just simple gestures of the arm and hand. Certainly it’s one interesting way to improve Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Kinect user experience. Check out the video below and see just how they did it.

With over 100,000 members to-date, including electronics enthusiasts and design engineers, the element14 community is an ideal platform for like-minded people to exchange ideas and collaborate to create unique design concepts using technologies like Arduino,” said Kevin Yapp, chief marketing officer, Premier Farnell and sponsor of The Ben Heck Show. “Ben’s latest feat proves that imagination, collaboration and a bit of programming can yield an innovative tool that’s sure to catch the attention of sci-fi fans and gamers at heart
