AT&T Validates NVIDIA Icera Modem Chipset For LTE Network Use

By

NVIDIA today announced that the NVIDIA Icera 410 LTE multimode data modem chipset for tablets and clamshell devices has been tested and validated for operation on the AT&T 4G LTE network. Together with its multimode radio transceiver, the chipset offers 4G LTE at category 2 data rates (up to 50 Mbps) as well as 4G HSPA+, 3G and 2G compatibility. In the case of this AT&T certification, LTE is supported on bands 4 and 17, HSPA+ on bands 1,2 and 5, plus GSM/EDGE on bands 2, 3,5 and 8. This solution requires the use of two chips; Tegra and the SOC data modem. NVIDIA has plans for an integrated Tegra and Icera SoC codenamed Project Grey that is coming in 2013 and targeted at the mainstream LTE market. And in case you were wondering the NVIDIA Icera 410 LTE multimode data modem chipset does not support CDMA2000, so sorry Verizon and Sprint users. The somewhat slow adoption of quad-core processors like NVIDIAs Tegra 3 has been blamed on the lack of LTE Network connectivity, so getting this AT&T qualification could lead to more NVIDIA Tegra design wins.

Validation with AT&T is an achievement that paves the way for NVIDIA Icera-powered LTE devices on the AT&T network through this year and next, said Stan Boland, senior vice president of Mobile Communications at NVIDIA.
