Warren East CEO, ARM Expects To Gain 20% Of Notebook PC Market By 2015

Warren East, CEO of ARM, has brazenly stated that he expects his company’s processors to eventually take 10-20% of the notebook PC market by 2015. He also expects that the impact ARM will have on the PC market will be far greater than competitor Intel when it pushes into the smartphone market. East, while forecasting 10-20% market share for ARM, expects Intel to only gain 5-10% of the smartphone market. Still, this isn’t the biggest prediction East has made, apparently last month he went so far as to predict that the embedded processor market would dwarf that of mobile device chips, with billions of chips shipped per year by ARM in just a couple more years.

While East forecasts 10 to 20 percent market share for ARM notebooks by 2014 or 2015, he believes Intel-powered smartphones will only capture about five to 10 percent of the smartphone market. Intel-powered handsets have only recently begun to enter the market, but more are expected to emerge in the coming months.
