Acer Announces AC100 Micro Server NAS Solution

By

Acer has announced its AC100 micro server NAS solution. It comes in various hardware configurations, all fitting within the same physical case. The initial offering will have an Intel Xeon E3-1260L CPU (quad core, 2.4GHz) but will add options for Core i3-2100 or 2120 and from July, it will offer G620, G840 and G850 CPU options. It has four drive bays, 6 USB ports, an eSATA port, Gig-E networking and a D-sub connector. Pricing looks to be affordable at around US$950 for a configuration consisting of Xeon E3-1260L, 4GB RAM and 2TB storage.

The AC10 will come with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 8TB of storage. It has a single half height PCI Express x8 expansion slot, which is one slot less than Thecus offers. Acer also offers an optional Wi-Fi card that goes in the PCI Express expansion slot as well as an optional TPM module. One major difference between the AC100 and Thecus new NAS products is that Acer ships the AC100 with Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials as standard, although Windows Server 2008 as well as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 are available as options.
