AMD is now preparing their mobile Radeon HD 7000 series lineup for launch. The desktop HD 7800 series, codenamed Pitcairn, will make up the HD 7900M series, which carries the codename Thames. AMD’s Cape Verde, which makes up the HD 7700 desktop part, will become the HD 7800M, and carry the codename Lombok. Meanwhile, the integrated GPUs in the Trinity-based APU will make up the 7600M and 7700M series. These mobile GPUs will debut on April 24th. Things look to be heating up in the notebook discrete graphics segment, as AMD gears up to take on NVIDIA. Let’s hope that with competition comes better prices and better performance for gaming laptops.

The parts will debut on April 24, and will be a part of onslaught with NVIDIA Kepler GPUs to win as much notebook discrete design wins as possible. AMD has an advantage over NVIDIA with a record number of Trinity APU and Trinity APU+Lombok GPU design wins. However, NVIDIA won over a large number of Ivy Bridge+Kepler design wins, meaning that the battle will be as tough in 2012 as it was in 2011.
