The tablet market continues to hot up with competitors to Apple’s iPad, with the Asus Asus Transformer Pad 300 hitting stores on April 22, priced $399. Some vital statistics for the device are: Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G LTE network capability, 10.1 inch 1280×800 resolution display, NVIDIA quad core Tegra SoC, 1GB RAM, 32GB storage, 1.2MP front camera, 8MP rear camera, micro HDMI port, microSD card reader, 10 hours battery life extendable to 15 hours with an additional batter connected to an optional keyboard dock. The operating system is Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwhich. Note that Asus has now dropped the “Eee” branding introduced in 2007, from its tablets. A key selling point is its lower price than the iPad, which starts at $500 for the lowest model. Picture courtesy of Asus.

A growing number of Android 4.0 devices are becoming available. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 will be available on April 22, with a 10.1-inch model shipping on May 13. Many Android 4.0 tablets under $250 are also available.
