ZOTAC GTX 680 Extreme Edition Features 1.2GHz Factory Overclock, Can Hit 2GHz With Luck

By

ZOTAC is soon to release their GTX 680 Extreme Edition graphics card, featuring a 1.2GHz GPU factory overclock, with the memory staying at 6.00GHz GDDR5 effective (the reference card comes in at 1006MHz GPU clock). This is the model that has been reported as reaching an astounding 2GHz GPU overclock in its stock configuration. Chinese site EXPreview has been able to preview this card and confirmed that it really is possible to reach 2GHz with it, but it’s not very likely. To achieve this overclock, one has to have efficient cooling, good overclocking skills and of course, luck. Oh and a decent power supply is a must for stable power.

This card is better than the reference model in several important ways: up to 1.5v core voltage (default 1.212v) 12 phase VRM, backplate, an OC+ connector for diagnosis and monitoring and LED indicators. Due to all these improvements, EXPreview have managed to overclock this beast to 1.4GHz without much trouble at all and it has more to give. It would be interesting to see a comparative benchmark face-off between an extreme overclocked GTX 680 and a similarly extreme overclocked HD 7970. Expect this ZOTAC to command a premium price.
