SK Hynix Submits Bid Interest For Elpida Memory

By

It would appear Micron Technology, along with Toshiba Corp, are not the only ones looking to acquire Elpida Memory. SK Hynix Semiconductor has entered the ring with the following statement to the Korean stock exchange: “We’ve submitted our interest today, which is the initial bid deadline, and plan to decide whether to make a formal bid after thorough due diligence,” This of course comes just after Hynix relaunched as SK Hynix following a majority stake takeover by SK Telecom Co. Considering SK Hynix is strong on its own, with a full spectrum of memory solutions such as DRAM, NAND flash and more, it seems the only reasoning for SK Hynix to pursue a purchase of Elpida is to keep Micron or Toshiba from acquiring the now defunct memory manufacturer and using it to strengthen their positions.

South Korean chipmaker SK hynix said on Friday it had submitted bid interest for Japan’s Elpida Memory Inc in a potential deal that could create a stronger challenger to sector leader Samsung Electronics Co.
