Google Drive To Go Live In April

By

It seems Google may finally roll out Google “Drive”, their cloud storage service, sometime in April. If it does indeed roll out, it will have been a long time coming since it was originally rumored as far back as 2006. Details on the service are pointing to Google offering 1Gb of storage for free, while rumors elsewhere on the net are saying 2Gb with up to 5Gb via referrals. The new service will use a local client, which features an interface that is similar to Google Docs, and furthermore will launch for Google App users as well. On top of this, an API for third party apps has also been created, so users can store content from other apps in Google Drive. If all goes as planned, Google Drive should potentially launch sometime during the week of April 16th.

The rumors of Googles Gdrive first emerged in 2006 and then in 2007 via The Wall Street Journal. Nothing came of those rumors. Two years later, same story, and one more time, nothing came to fruition. In 2010, Google announced that it would allow you to upload documents and files to Google Docs. In February 2012, the rumors started again with another report from The Wall Street Journal.
