Battlefield 3 PC Patch Goes Live Tomorrow; DICE Explains Delay

By

The massive Battlefield 3 patch DICE has been working on was delayed on PC due to console certification. This patch, with its laundry list of fixes, is so absurdly large in part because of console manufacturers’ requirements. This forced DICE to deliver the fixes many gamers have been waiting for as one massive patch. DICE went so far as to confirm how frustrating it is having to deal with said requirements, however, they do significantly reduce the chance of emergency patches. Patrick Bach, Executive Producer at DICE, went further saying We have had problems with patching in things like Battlefield 2 where you had to patch the patch because the patch screwed it up and then you have to apply a patch to the patch to the patch. And thats, from a player perspective, thats not a great experience Oh is this the 6.8 patch or the 6.9? Because the 6.8 broke the game and now you need to unbreak it! So getting focus and testing and all those things is actually a positive. Now, with that said, when an issue crops up, gamers will want it fixed ASAP and while certification may cause longer waits between patches it’s far better to wait than have a broken game. Let’s hope this patch release goes smoothly on the PC platform, as the patch will go live tomorrow March 29th.

Our problem with support is we have a very big and complex game, so if something needs to be fixed, we need to be sure that it doesnt break something at the other end and again, like I said, we dont want to do emergency fixes to compensate for a problem in a specific area.
