Proposed US Bill Could Force Tobacco-Style Warnings On Video Games

By

Two US Congressmen have set their sights on video games again, in a bill that would put tobacco-style warnings onto the case. This means that all games rated by the ESRB that earn a rating other then EC (early childhood), examples being Mortal Kombat and Imagine:Party Babyz, would get a label reading “WARNING: Exposure to violent video games has been linked to aggressive behavior.” Should H.R. 4204 “Violence in Video Games Labeling Act” pass, it would be amazing as it’s been introduced to congress on six occasions already since 2002 and has been shut down each and every time. It could have something to do with the fact the bill is based on junk scientific data that has never been proven. It really is a shame that (D-CA) Joe Baca, and (R-VA) Frank Wolf continue to waste tax payers money not once but apparently 6 going on 7 times. Considering this bill has failed so many times before, it’s now a complete joke, with lawmakers continuation of singling out video games only ever resulting in a costly failed bill.
