Yeston AMD Branded Cost-Effective Tahiti PCB Exposed

By

Yeston a Chinese AMD Radeon add-in board (AIB) partner and motherboard manufacturer has displayed a “Tahiti” (HD 7970 / 7950) PCB. The PCB bears AMD’s branding and is supposedly the cost effective “Tahiti” PCB. The designers have done some cost cutting to maximize affordability without sacrificing quality. The design uses an 8+1+1 phase VRM using cheaper ferrite core chokes and LFPAK MOSFETs. Yeston has also made room for two DVI connectors alongside one HDMI 1.4a and one standard DisplayPort 1.2 connector. It would also seem that the dual-BIOS feature is blanked out on this particular PCB. Lets just hope this cost effective design doesn’t impact the sensational overclocking witnessed on reference HD 7970s we have seen already.
