Sisvel International has announced that it has acquired more then 450 patents and applications originally filed by Nokia. The patents and patent applications cover a range of technologies used in mobile communication devices and services, with 350 patents being declared essential by Nokia to second, third and fourth-generation communications standards. The standards these patents cover are GSM (Global Systems for Mobile communications) UMTS / WCDMA (Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service / Wide-Band Code Division Multiple Access) and of course LTE (Long Term Evolution). It is also interesting to note that certain patents are subject to prior agreements and that Nokia itself is licensed under the portfolio as a part of the acquisition by Sisvel International.
