Intel Sandy Bridge-E Processors Listed For Sale Online

By

A number of online retailers have jumped the gun and listed the two Intel six-core Sandy Bridge-E processors for sale. The two processors listed are the Intel Core i7-3930K and Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition. One site in the UK has the top-end i7-3960X is priced at 850.79 (including taxes), that converts to US $1,364. The unlocked Core i7-3930K is priced at 477.59 (including taxes) or US $766. This doesn’t appear to be far off from what we expected as the Intel Extreme Edition processor has nearly always cost at least $999. A number of sites in Australia has the Core i7 3960X processor listed with prices ranging from $1247.97 to $1347.00.

Based on Internet speculation, the range-topping parts will initially be available in two extreme hexa-core flavours; the top-of-the-line Core i7-3960X and the second-tier Core i7-3930K. According to recent reports, Intel’s third-rung Sandy Bridge Extreme processor – the quad-core Core i7-3820 – has been pushed back to February 2012. Our best guess would price the chip at just under 250, but given the lukewarm reception to AMD’s Bulldozer, Intel appears to be happy to delay the high-end chip, opting instead to have regular Sandy Bridge parts occupy the 200 – 300 space for a further few months.
