Google Launches Android 4.0 – Enter Roboto Font, Face Unlock and No Buttons

Google just rolled out Android 4.0, which is the companies fourth major operating system.

The previous versions were 2.2 (Froyo), 2.3 (Gingerbread), and 3.0 (Honeycomb). Android 4.0 was designed with three design principles: enchant me, simplify my life, and make me awesome.

One of the most visible features would have to be Robato. It’s a totally new typeface for Android and was built from scratch for high-definition paper density displays.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has no buttons on the front of the phone as they are now part of the UI. It appears that virtual buttons will be the norm going forward as they are easy to tweak and rotate when the phone is rotated. Removing them also increases the screen size.

Ice Cream Sandwich includes “Face Unlock” The OS now literally knows your face and can unlock your phone when it knows that it is you looking at it. This is just a few of the many changes in this OS, so be sure to check out the live stream to see them all!
