Verizon asks court not to bar Samsung devices in U.S.

Verizon Wireless has officially voiced its support of Samsung Electronics by filing a brief in federal court against Apple’s request to bar importation of some of the South Korean company’s wireless devices, saying such a ban would “harm Verizon Wireless and U.S. consumers,” as well as slow the deployment of new wireless technology. Samsung and Apple are due to square off in court today in the Netherlands, where Samsung wants to bar Apple’s products even as Apple makes a similar move in an Australian court.

An attorney representing Apple claimed in an Australian court Monday that Samsung’s latest tablet computer infringes on patents relating to touch screen technology. Apple is seeking a court injunction to prevent Samsung from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia.
