Google announced this morning that the company has agreed to buy restaurant-review firm Zagat, a deal that highlights the Internet giant’s recent moves to grab a share of the revenue from local businesses. Google says that this move will become the cornerstone of their local offering. Zagat has a “Zagat To Go” app that costs $9.99 and can be used on Apple Inc.’s iPhone or iPod Touch, as well as app options for the Android, BlackBerry and other smartphones. This also marks Google’s move into creating original content! Will Google keep Zagats pay wall? Many questions remain!
So, today, I’m thrilled that Google has acquired Zagat. Moving forward, Zagat will be a cornerstone of our local offeringdelighting people with their impressive array of reviews, ratings and insights, while enabling people everywhere to find extraordinary (and ordinary) experiences around the corner and around the world.
