Court clears cloud music providers to expand features

By

A rather important court ruling, in terms of cloud based music, has been handed down which opens the door for many providers to offer such a service. Basically the ruling makes legal the model of a provider matching the user’s library with a “master track” in the cloud and unlocking for use rather than uploading the entire library. The timing is curious since Apple is about to roll this out live in the near future although there’s always the possibility that it gets overturned on appeal.

The decision by the U.S. District Court in New York could pave the way for Google’s Music, Amazon.com’s Cloud Player, Dropbox and other providers of online storage services to add time-saving features.
