Apple Blocks Sales of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in EU

Apple Inc. has won a major victory in its ongoing campaign against Samsung Electronics. A court in Dusseldorf, Germany has granted Apple a preliminary injunction that extends to 26 countries throughout the European Union (EU) that forces Samsung from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 touchscreen tablet computer. The injunction only affects the Samsung Tablet with 10.1-inch screen and not the other 7-inch models that Samsung has in its arsenal. Samsung has even postponed the launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia since Apple requested courts to block the sales last week. Apple is also pursuing its infringement claims at other courts around the world including the United States.

“This is an intellectual property right granted by an agency of the European Union,” Florian Mueller, a technology specialist and blogger on patent battles, said on his blog FOSS Patents. “It can therefore be enforced on an EU-wide basis, while European patent law is still fragmented, requiring a different lawsuit in each country in which one seeks to enforce it.”
