Nissan Sells 931 Leafs in July, Beats the 125 Volts Sold by GM

I thought that everyone wanted electric cars? The top two electric car models in the United States are the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt. Both models suffered a significant drop in sales last month with the Volt having 125 sales, the Leaf bested that number with 931 sales. In June the Volt sold over 500 units, the Leaf over 1700. What is wrong with electric cars and why aren’t people jumping all over them? All I can say is with the heat wave that America is experiencing and the strained power grid, I don’t think we could keep the lights on if electric cars took off.

Chevy Volt

Sales of the much-hyped Chevy Volt fell to new lows as did GM share price as July auto sales figures came in. Only 125 Volts were sold during the month of July. Recent reports attributed the slump to supply constraints as GM spokeswoman, Michelle Bunker, was quoted as saying that the Volt was “virtually sold out” and only a “few” were available nationwide. I have confirmed that this statement is not entirely truthful and have gotten clarification from GM through Director of Communications, Greg Martin
