EVGA Shows Off Their LGA2011 X79 Motherboard For Sandy Bridge-EP

By

Jacob Freeman over at EVGA has posted up a picture of the companies upcoming Intel X79 Express (LGA2011) motherboard today. We all know the rumors about this board having quad-channel DDR3 memory, PCI Express 3.0 and SAS support, so let’s look at the things in the picture that was posted that are new to us.

EVGA LGA2011 Motherboard

The first thing that we noticed that was different from other LGA2011 motherboards that we saw at Computex is the right angled 24-pin ATX power connector. We were also shocked to hear that Jacob said that the board is larger than a standard sized ATX board, but he didn’t call it E-ATX. We have a feeling that EVGA will be working on an Intel X79 based SR-2 board for the real E-ATX board!

This is preliminary, most of you probably know what it is… It will have some features familiar to previous EVGA boards, but also a ton of new ones. Example, the board above uses 100% poscaps. It is a bit over ATX size and has a right angled 24pin power connector.
