Sprint Recommends Using 4G To Survive Carmageddon in LA July 16-17

The 405 Freeway is going to be a mess this weekend when demolition work on the Mulholland Drive bridge goes into full effect. The event has been known as “Carmageddon and if you plan on going between the 10 and the 101 in Los Angeles, it might look like the end of the world due to all the backed up traffic. The 405 handles over 281,000 cars per day and will be shut down for about 53 hours from the 10 Freeway to the 101 Freeway on the northbound side and from the 101 Freeway to Getty Center Drive on the southbound side. Sprint has issues a press release today letting their 4G customers know that they have a ton of apps available for download. Sprint says that Angelenos can check traffic and public transportation using GPS, find alternate routes (besides Sepulveda), share photos, videos and horror stories to social networking and blog sites, host impromptu backyard picnics with a wide range of recipes at ones fingertips, and play a variety of games in 2D and 3D. Sprint suggests four ways to make the weekend more manageable using your Sprint 4G mobile device. The first one is shown below, but all four suggestions can be found in the forums.

Carmageddon

Use GPS: Sprint Navigation, a preloaded application on many Sprint mobile devices, will allow you to check alternate routes and see traffic delays. Also, you can use Sprint Navigation to check for nearby restaurants if you are stuck in an unfamiliar part of town and need to grab a bite.
