U.S. cyber approach too predictable for one top general

Once again the federal government is trying to lock down its resources from the threat of a Cyber Security attack. President Obama has always stated that Cyber Security is one of his key areas of focus for this country but the loss of over 24,000 files from a Defense Department Contractor shows we have a long way to go.

The common theme for these types of attacks it someone who is not skilled in security is allowed to have classified documents on a computer system without proper protection from cyber attack. As a network security expert with over 15 years experience I am always amazed when I read these stories and know first hand how easy this is to prevent.

I have to agree with the General, the US is too predictable.

The nations second-ranking military official said Thursday that the U.S. approach to protecting its computer systems was too predictable and failed to penalize attackers, comments that preceded the release of a Pentagon cyber strategy that emphasized defense over retaliation.
