3DMark Time Spy DirectX 12 Benchmark Debuts in China
If you have ever used 3DMark Fire Strike you know that the benchmark can be pretty tough on video cards. It appears that GALAXY over in China was holding a press event and showed off a previously unseen DX12 benchmark test by Futuremark called Time Spy. The video clip is only 58 seconds long and filmed in 360p presumably at the GALAX GOC overclocking competition in Wuhan, China that took place December 11-14th, 2015. The video surfaced this weekend on Chinese video service YouKu, but has since been put on YouTube.
Futuremark has informed the media that Time Spy will consist of three tests — two graphics tests and a single physics test — which will test GPU and CPU performance. The test will also include a demo reel and soundtrack just like all previous 3DMark benchmark tests.
Futuremark said the Time Spy benchmark is being developed using a Direct X 12 engine that it created in-house to showcase the API’s new features. The company pointed out that one of DX12s greatest benefits is its ability to have far more draw calls than the previous version of the API. Time Spy is said to have about five times more content on screen than Fire Strike.
The Time Spy DX12 benchmark will be added to the 3DMark in early 2016 when work on the benchmark is completed. It should be noted that the NVIDIA and Galax logos above the benchmark are because this was filmed at the Galax event and not because NVIDIA has ‘bought’ the benchmark. Futuremark is working with all of their Benchmark Development Program partners to create this DX12 test and that means AMD, Intel, NVIDIA along with over 20 other companies have influence on its development.
