Over 3 million Xbox One’s Sold In 2013
Microsoft has announced today that their new Xbox One console sold over 3 million units in 2013. Xbox one sold 1 million copies on its launch on November 22. Microsoft also pointed out that the Xbox One was the fastest selling console in November, which although it may be a nice talking point, is rather meaningless considering that the PS4 had a different launch date and launched in different countries at different times.
This announcement comes after Sony said that it had sold 2.1 million PS4’s on December 1. While there is no new news regarding sales figures from Sony, I believe it is safe to assume that they probably surpassed the 3 million mark set by Xbox One for 2013 (The PS4 would have only needed to sell 900,000 units in 30 days to match Xbox One).
However, with the holiday season ending, it is fair to say that the road to selling 4 million units will probably take longer than the 18 days it took Microsoft to go from 1 million Xbox One’s to 2 million. Regardless, it is safe to say that both Microsoft and Sony have had successful launches of their new consoles and it will be interesting to see where sales information is in 6 months once supply has had a chance to catch up to demand and the launch of the consoles in other countries has been completed as well.
