Will AMD Be Launching 17 Ryzen Processors Next Month?
Rumor has it that AMD is going to be releasing 17 Ryzen processors that are divided into three series named R3, R5 and R7. The high-end Ryzen processors will be placed into the R7 range and will all be 8-core 16-thread processors that are meant to compete with the Intel Core i7 series. Next you have the mid-range R5 Ryzen CPUs will that are all 6-core 12-thread parts and then at the bottom-end of the stack you have the R3 Ryzen processors that are all quad-core parts that either have no additional threads or a maximum of eight. AMD calls this additional threading SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) technology, which is the equivalent to Intel’s HT (Hyper-Threading) technology. AMD has been able to come up with 17 processors by varying clock speeds and other features for product range differentiation.
The AMD R7 1800X or R7 Pro 1800X as some sites are calling it will be the eight-core, 16-thread monster that AMD has been touting since Zen debuted. According to the leaked slide above from some sites in Asia, the clock speeds on that processor might be 3.60 GHz and there is no mention of boost clocks on the leaked processor table. This table shows that AMD will be having six-core Ryzen CPU models and that is interesting as Zen is made of CPU complexes (CCXes) that each contain four cores. That means the existence of 6-core Ryzen processors would mean that AMD has been able to successfully disable part of one of the two CCX units.
Rumors still have the AMD Ryzen processors coming our on March 3rd, 2017, but we’ve still seen some people saying that March 7th, 2017 is the date. Both dates are less than a month away, so it will be interesting to see what we can learn before the official release. Just remember that Ryzen is pronounced rye-zen, not rizen!
AMD Ryzen R7 CPU Lineup
- R7 1800X
- R7 PRO 1800
- R7 1700X

The AMD R7 family of processors will feature 8 cores with SMT for a total of 16 threads. These processors will be competing against Intel Core i7-7700, Core i7-7700K, Core i7-6800K and the Core i7-6900K,. The battle between the AMD R7 1700X will be going up against the Core i7-7700K will be one that gamers and performance enthusiasts should be most interested in.

The mid-range AMD R5 series of CPUs will 6 core and 4 core variants with SMT enabled for either 12 or 8-threads. These processors will compete against the Intel Core i5-7400 to the Core i5-7600K processors. The AMD R3 series does not have SMT support and they were not compared to any Intel processors in the table.
