Sandra Benchmarks on the Intel Core i7-8700K Processor Leak
The Intel Core i7-8700K is an upcoming 6-core, 12-thread Coffee Lake processor that will be available this fall from Intel. Many have been waiting to see some performance numbers for this processor, but it looks like that wait is over! Someone with an Intel Core i7-8700K processor and an ASRock Z370 Pro4 motherboard have uploaded results to the SiSoftware Official Live Ranker!
Before we show you the results we should inform you that the Intel Core i7-8700K is expected to be the flagship processor for the Coffee Lake series. Intel has stated that this processor series should see up to an 11 percent gain in single-threaded performance versus the Intel Core i7-7700K processor that is the current flagship model for the Kaby Lake series. The largest area of improvement will be on multi-threaded applications as Intel said there will be up to a 51 percent increase due to having two additional physical cores and two more treads.
Without further ado here are the results:
These numbers don’t mean much by themselves, so let’s take a look against the aggregated scores in SiSoftware SANDRA’s database for the Intel Core i7-7700K processor.
Benchmark | Core i7-7700K | Core i7-8700K | Percentage Increase |
Processor Arithmetic | 149.99 GOPS | 217.98 GOPS | 45% |
Procrssor Multi-Media | 447.76 Mpix/s | 658.57 Mpix/s | 47% |
Processor Cryptography | 9.34 GB/s | 10.47 GB/s | 12% |
Scientific Analysis (Single Precision) | 48.51 GFLOPS | 61.41 GFLOPS | 26% |
Scientific Analysis (Double Precision) | 24.40 GFLOPS | 32.11 GFLOPS | 32% |
These are really nice performance gains that we are seeing this early on, so it looks like the Intel Core i7-8700K is shaping up nicely. The two extra CPU cores with HyperThreading are giving the 8700K a massive performance boost over the 7700K. The database shows the average power for the Intel Core i7-7700K was 253.4 Watts versus 308.5W for the Intel Core i7-8700K. We’ll have to see what this 22% increase in power is about as on the mobile side Intel was able to add cores and keep the power envelope the same.
The Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake processor is currently $336.89 shipped on Amazon or $299.99 in-store at Micro Center, if Intel can keep the Core i7-8700K processor in the $300-$350 price range it will make for a very interesting processor. The AMD Ryzen 7 1700X is priced at $309.99 shipped and the Ryzen 7 1800X is priced at $430.89 shipped. The $300-$450 processor market is getting competitive and that is great for consumers!
