CES 2014 – Prong PocketPlug: A Different Kind of Phone Case That Plugs Into Your Wall
While at a CES Unveiled in Las Vegas, we ran into a company called Prong. Prong has created a neat case called PocketPlug, currently only available for iPhone 4/4s and 5/5s, where the wall prongs are built into the case. You might think its silly having two prongs sticking out from your phone, but fortunately they retract and lay flat with the back of the case. The only design that we saw was for the North American style plug, which does work perfect for what they want since the prongs are flat and not round like European plugs. The case didnt feel overly bulky, but it does add some heft to your phone.
Should you want to charge your device without plugging it into the wall, they have integrated a MicroUSB port. Now this is a great idea and all, but since these cases are only currently available for iPhone, how many iPhone owners have MicroUSB chargers or cables?
Featuring a rubberized finish and a polycarbonate core, you can expect to find the PocketPlug for the iPhone 5 or 5s for $69.95 and the iPhone 4 or 4s for $59.95 right now. Prong does say they have one in the works for the 1-1/2 year old Samsung Galaxy S3, but did not provide a projected price time frame of availability, nor if one is in the works for the S4 or other phones.
