CES 2013: Plextor Introduces M5M mSATA SSD Upgrade for Ultrabook Users
The new M5M mSATA SSD shown off by Plextor at CES provides the same high-performance and reliability expected of a Plextor SSD in a space one-eighth the size of a standard 2.5 inch drive, making it especially well-suited for use in ultrabooks. The M5M is an mSATA 6Gb/s SSD following the JEDEC MO-300 form factor and has the following key specs: 64/128/256GB capacity with all versions featuring 540MB/s read speeds with sequential write speeds for the three models being 160MB/s, 320MB/s and 430MB/s respectively.
The M5M uses the new Marvell 88SS9187 controller with True Speed for enhanced performance and reliability. It supports Plextor's True Protect unique enterprise-grade double-data protection technology which helps to guard against power loss along with DEVSLP low power mode, helping to extend battery life. Finally, the M5M sports an impressive MTBF of 2.4 million hours, achieved by a stringent pre-production testing requirement of 400 drives passing 500 hours of intensive tests with zero errors.
Plextor's exclusive True Speed technology—developed by their in-house firmware team—prevents SSD speed drops, automatically maintaining performance at like-new speeds. In addition, the M5M will feature Toshiba's new 19nm Toggle NAND flash memory.
