CES 2013: ASUSTOR Shows Off New 6 Series NAS

ASUSTOR is showcasing its brand new AS 6 Series NAS devices during CES 2013 in Las Vegas. We stopped by to take a look at their brand new tower models that come in 2-bay, 4-bay, 6-bay, and 8-bay configurations as well as 1U and 2U rack mount models.  The AS 6 Series is designed for small businesses, website construction, or home entertainment. These NAS devices are designed around the use of “Apps” and are the first to feature System Sleep Mode (S3) that have instantaneous wake up times.  With this mode, the CPU on the NAS draws no power yet the RAM is in a self-refresh state allowing the power supply to work in a reduced power mode. The AS 6 Series supports Single, JBOD, RAID 0/1/5/6/10 + Hot Spare Volume Types.

ASUSTOR AS 6

Each ASUSTOR AS 6 Series models are powered by an Intel Atom 2.13 GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM. A very unique feature that ASUSTOR has equipped their AS 6 Series with is an HDMI output on every model that allows the user to play HD video directly from the NAS!  ASUSTOR has also outfitted the AS 6 Series with 4 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.0, and 2 eSATA connections for even more functionality.

ASUSTOR AS 6

ASUSTOR is one of the only “App-Based” NAS units you will see and comes pre-installed with apps available from ASUSTOR’s App Central.  App Central is able to provide a large variety of applications depending on the specific needs of the user.  Some of the more recent additions to App Central includes:

  • RALUS: Symantec Backup Exec’s remote agent for use with Linux and Unix clients
  • Dropbox: A popular cloud storage and file syncing service
  • DVBLink TV Server: An App that lets users watch and record digital TV programs

ASUSTOR AS 6

ASUSTOR didn’t have pricing information for the AS 6 Series yet, but we will be keeping a close eye out as this series of NAS products looks very attractive!
