Futuremark Releases 3DMark Cloud Gate Screenshots & Announces Delay

Last week, Futuremark released the trailer for 3DMark Fire Strike that shows what the company's upcoming DirectX 11 benchmark test for high-performance gaming PCs looks like. This week they have released Cloud Gate, which is the new 3DMark benchmark test for DirectX 10 compatible hardware.

3DMark Cloud Gate

The screen shots for Cloud Gate look impressive and more of them can be seen here. Cloud Gate will initially be available only in the Windows editions of 3DMark and includes two graphics tests and a physics test.

 3DMark DX10 Benchmark

The bad news that was also announced is that this version of 3DMark will not be released in 2012. Futuremark had this to say about the delay, "Benchmark quality is our number one priority so we are now aiming for a Windows launch in January 2013. The Android, iOS and Windows RT versions will follow soon after pending further testing and app store approvals."

3DMark Cloud Gate DX10 Benchmark

Cloud Gate, one of three tests in the new 3DMark, uses a DirectX 11 engine limited to Direct3D feature level 10_0, making it suitable for testing DirectX 10 compatible hardware found in notebooks and typical home PCs. It is also an ideal benchmark for entry-level DirectX 11 integrated graphics solutions that could struggle to run the more demanding Fire Strike test. Cloud Gate will be available only in the Windows versions of 3DMark initially.
