Kickstarter: Oculus Rift VR Headset Hits $1 Million In 24 Hours

It seems the Oculus Rift is creating a bit of buzz at QuakeCon this year. What is it you ask? Well to put it simply its a virtual reality headset and it just so happens to be designed specifically for games. It offers up a few tasty features such as a wide field of view, high resolution display and uses ultra-low latency head tracking for that immersive experience. The project which started on Kickstarter yesterday has already gained $1 Million USD in backing beating their goal of $250k in a single day. It has even gained some serious support from the likes of John Carmack, who in a G4tv interview has said "The effect of using the Oculus Rift as you play is mind-blowing. You’re essentially transported into the game, with the headset recording every tilt and turn of your head and body." His praise isn't of an idle support Id Tech will be shipping Doom 3 BFG Edition with support for the Oculus Rift. Others in the game industry such as Cliff Bleszinski, Gabe Newell and more have all been impressed with the device which certainly bodes well for its future. The team behind it all is already working on an SDK for developers to use in order to make integration with the Oculus Rift easier in new and existing games. So feel free to check the source below or visit the Oculus VR website for more info.
