AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition vBIOS Download Now Available
Last month AMD released the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition video card, which was an updated version of the Radeon HD 7970. The changes on the software side made it the fastest single-GPU card that the company makes and one that can beat the GeForce GTX 680 in a number of occasions. The new card boasted a core clock speed of 1000MHz and for the first time features something called PowerTune Boost that allowed the card to run up to 1050MHz within a certain power envelope. The 3GB of GDDR5 memory speed was also increased up to the tune of 1500MHz. We didn't review this card yet for a number of reasons and from the day we found out about this card we asked why AMD just didn't release a new BIOS for everyone. The AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz edition cards aren't for sale yet, but we have the Radeon HD 7970 GHz edition vBIOS for you to download and use if you have a reference design Radeon HD 7970 card. The password to the file is 'tahiti' and Legit Reviews is hosting the file. This means the early adopters can get now get the same advantages of the GHz edition with a simple vBIOS flash. So if you want to take your 6 month old Radeon HD 7970 from 925MHz core clock and 1375MHz memory clock to 1000MHz+ core and 1500MHz memory this is your chance to give it a go. Remember this should only work on reference design cards, so be very careful on what cards you try to update and by downloading this BIOS file you acknowledge what you are getting into. We have a Radeon HD 7970 GHz edition on the test bench right now and will have a full review up this week now that we know what AMD is planning with this card.
