NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 Video Card Arrives in Wood Crate - Crowbar Needed

Last week, NVIDIA's marketing team sent us a box that contained nothing more than a large metal crowbar. On the pry bar we found the message that read "for use in case of zombies or..." and the NVIDIA logo. We guessed that it was to possibly open a crate and sure enough a wood crate was delivered to our office this morning.

The top of the crate said "weapons grade gaming power"and on the side was "0b1010110010", which is is binary for "690". we are not sure what the next two lines mean though, so if you do be sure to let us know! Could the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 dual-GPU video card be inside?

We used the pry bar that we were sent last week and removed the top cover.
NVIDIA GTX 690 Video Card
Inside the crate we found the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 video card! The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 dual-GPU graphics card uses two GK104 Kepler cores and has a total of 3,072 NVIDIA CUDA cores! The GTX 690 features a base clock speed 915 MHz and a "typical" Boost clock of up to 1019 MHz. We don't have any drivers yet, so we can't tell you much about performance! We do know that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 GPU will be available in limited quantities starting May 3, 2012 and it costs $999. It looks like NVIDIA is giving less than 72 hours to write a review on this card and we don't even have the drivers yet! We have additional photos that are higher resolution in out forums, so be sure to visit this thread to check them out.

“The GTX 690 is truly a work of art—gorgeous on the outside with amazing performance on the inside,” said Brian Kelleher, senior vice president of GPU engineering at NVIDIA. “Gamers will love playing on multiple screens at high resolutions with all the eye candy turned on. And they’ll relish showing their friends how beautiful the cards look inside their systems.”
