MSI Enters Gaming Monitor Market With Optix G27C w/ Curved Samsung Panel
It looks like MSI wants to take a shot at the gaming monitor market and has quietly released their first gaming monitor on Newegg last month! It appears that no one noticed until this week as it finally got noticed by the tech sites. The MSI Optix G27C is a 27″ LED-Backlight curved display that features a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate and a typical response time of 8ms. Not bad specifications for a monitor that is priced at $299.99 shipped right now after $50 rebate card.
MSI went with a Samsung 1800R curvature panel on this gaming monitor as they claim it is more comfortable on the eyes than R4000 and R3000 curve rates. The exact panel wasn’t noted, but the gaming community is thinking that it is the same panel used on the Samsung C27FG70 monitor ($449.99 and coming out on Jan 4th 2017) as it too offers 110% sRGB, a 1800R curvature and has quantum dot technology. It appears that only the panel itself is shared between the two displays as many of the other specifications are different and that is likely due to a different scalar being used. When it comes to video inputs the MSI Optix G27C has an HDMI 1.4 and DP 1.2 connector as well as DVI.

The monitor boasts 300cd/m brightness and offers 110% RGB color gamut, but fails to offer high dynamic range, aka HDR. We expect to see some HDR monitors in the consumer space to be shown off at CES 2017 that might be coming out in the first half of 2017. The listing shows that MSI has some gaming features like FPS Front Sight Targeting and seven monitor modes to pick from.
