Microsoft Unveils Weird Anti-Google Clothing Line
I was spending some time today looking around the Microsoft store, and noticed all the usual suspects. Windows platforms, Office Suites, Xbox One, etc. but then I stumbled upon a clothing line that they created specifically to dig at Google’s questionable data collection policies. Here are a few of the oddities you’ll find on the Microsoft Store.
There are more example of this coming from Microsoft’s self-dubbed “Scroogled” store. We recently ran across a Scroogled video as well. While negative campaigning may work in politics, it certainly comes off as odd, if not desperate, in the technology world. Personally, I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing one of these shirts and I can’t imagine that the sales of these are through the roof by any means.
Furthermore, it is not as if Microsoft is the avatar of privacy either. While their data collection and sharing methods may not be as thorough as what Google allegedly does, they have their own privacy issues as well. Anyway, I’m not sure if it is the uncomfortable looks on the models’ faces, or just the fact that this seems to be a low and embarrassing campaign on Microsoft’s behalf, but this is definitely more damaging to Microsoft’s image than it is to Google’s.
If Microsoft really wants to take a swipe at Google, perhaps they should unveil a product that will transfer users back into their market share, not just take pot shots with t-shirts and coffee mugs.
