Gunnar Sues Upstart Gaming Glasses Company NoScope

By

NoScopeGunnar Optiks have brought a legal claim against NoScope Glasses claiming that NoScope has infringed on Gunnars patents. These patents included technology centered around tented lenses and curved frames. On the surface, this doesnt seem to be enough for a huge legal dust up, but just below the surface, this could be a reaction from Gunnar as they watch their market share shrink to a younger company with more affordable products. NoScope has been around almost a year and has a pretty good following, based on all the gamers on the MLG Tour, Twitch TV, and Steam who are seen in their products.

Posted on their website, NoScope says they will not back down from a fight with Gunnar. Those of us who enjoy how competition keeps prices low, will be watching this closely.

Here is NoScopes response to Gunnars lawsui from their blog:

Here at NoScope, we have always strived to support the gaming community, and believe that the spirit of competition is one of the aspects that makes gaming great. The same can be said of our business model. We are proud to offer quality gaming glasses at an affordable cost, which has attracted the attention from incumbent players in the gaming glasses space. That said, we wish to publically state that Gunnar Optiks has filed a lawsuit against us that we feel is without merit.

The short of this story is that Gunnar is suing us with the position that tinted lenses and curved frames products that have existed in other industries for decades are patentable items. It is our firm belief that competition in the gaming glasses market is whats best for the customer, but we’re not entirely sure that Gunnar holds this same belief.

We here at NoScope feel that this is a frivolous case brought up in an attempt to force us out of the market, but we’re not one to back down from a challenge. We stand behind our products, rely on our fans, and strive to operate as an honest, transparent business. It is our position that our products do not violate any valid patents, and we offer only fair competition to Gunnar within the gaming glasses market.

This is why we’re opting to answer Gunnar’s suit with a fight. We owe it to our customers and fans, who regularly thank us for providing an affordable alternative for gaming glasses, to let Gunnar know that we are a positive force in this industry, and we will not back down or be bullied out. We believe that this is an unethical business practice from them, and we will respond with what NoScope has always stood for: Honesty, transparency, and fairness.

All of us here at NoScope wish to thank everyone who has supported us and continues to do so. We have always said that our fans, customers, and sponsored gamers in Team NoScope represent the best of the gaming community, and in turn we hope that we mirror these ideals and represent the best in the business world. Thank you for making NoScope great, and let’s show our competitors why Team NoScope is the best at what we do. Game on.
