Gigabyte GHOST M8000X Gaming Mouse Review

GP-MP8000 Mouse Pad (Not Included)
The GP-MP8000 Gaming Mouse Pad came in this tube, roughly 12″ long and 3″ in diameter. On the side of the tube is a painted-on sticker with a picture of the M8000X mouse and GHOST logo as this is part of the GHOST Gaming Series line of peripherals. Higher up on the sticker is the product info, namely: Extreme Accuracy Gaming-grade Mouse Pad, GP-MP8000, followed by the features:
- High density polyester cloth optimizes performance in games
- Anti clip natural rubber ensures high speed movement
- Wide and smooth surface provides total-comfort grip
- Perfect 400x300x4 mm size
- Green product (RoHS compliant)
The end of the cap features another GHOST Gaming Series logo. Here you also see how the cap covers the end of the tube with the mouse pad slightly sticking out for removability.
A dominant feature on the surface of the GP-MP8000 is yet again the GHOST Gaming Series logo. Being in the dead center of the pad and taking up about 2/3 of the height and 1/2 the width of it, this is not something which is easy to miss. The background pattern on the GP-MP8000 is a golden honey-comb pattern which is clear and defined at the center and fades off to the edges. Finally, at the top left is the Gigabyte logo in gray.
When compared to the Razer Destructor gaming mat, you can see that the GP-MP8000 is certainly of decent size: 300x400x4mm, which is roughly a 12×16″ surface area.
Here you can see the difference in thickness between the mats, the GP-MP8000 is roughly twice as thick as the Destructor, which has a thicker surface than sub-surface, being Razer’s Fractal textured gunmetal surface. The cloth surface of the GP-MP8000 was designed specifically for use with the M8000X mouse so hopefully it will fulfill that goal and replace my aging Destructor, but it has some big shoes to fill as far as tracking performance.
Taking a closer look at the surface, you can see there are plenty of inconsistencies on the pad and this is something all cloth pads will have. There is no doubt the M8000X will find these, but hopefully the laser does not get caught tracking at the wrong sensing distance when setting itself up so these imperfections get magnified.
The bottom of the mat is a fairly standard non-slip material formed into a unique pattern; there will be no problem with this pad moving around during use.
Now, let’s move onto my final thoughts on both items for what you readers really need to know if considering either one for purchase.
