SATA 3 (6Gbps) Testing

HD Tach is a low level benchmark for storage devices like hard drives and flash drives. It uses custom drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible to achieve the closest physical performance of the device possible.

The SATA3(6 Gbps) Testing was done using a Western Digital 640GB Black Edition SATA3 hard drive.

GIGABYTE X58A-UD3R HD Tach Results

Benchmark Results: Both the ASUS Rampage II Extreme and the GIGABYTE X58A-UD3R motherboard offer the same performance using the Western Digital Black Edition 640GB hard drive when it comes to Avg speeds and access time. The X58A-UD3R however, beats the Rampage II by a decent margin on the burst read speed with it’s SATA 3 capability as the Rampage II Extreme does not employ SATA3.

HD Tune Pro is another benchmark used for the SATA 3 testing as it included the write speeds. However a last minute mishap during the writing of this article had deleted the image capture I had of the results although I was able to record them on paper.

Benchmark Results: HD Tune shows that both the ASUS Rampage II Extreme and the GIGABYTE X58A-UD3R were essentially identical on the average speeds, although when it came to the burst speeds, the X58A-UD3R had no doubt beat the Rampage II with its SATA 3 capability.
